Travel to/from Britain the relaxed and reliable way this festive season:

Category: Uncategorized — Admin @ 11:54 pm

Are you or someone you know trying to get to/from Britain and worried whether you’ll make it? The Stena Europe ferry between Rosslare and Fishguard is running as normal. Connecting trains to/from Fishguard’s integrated ferry/rail terminal and South Wales and London are getting through.

If in Éire you can purchase a ticket from the Stena Line Travel Centre in the Rosslare Europort Terminal. In Britain from the ticket office at any staffed railway station. Fares are detailed on the Stena Line website.

Train times in Britain can be obtained on the National Rail website.

The ferry has a myriad of facilities to while away the crossing. Cabins are also available.

* The last pre-Christmas sailings are on Christmas Eve at 0245 ex Fishguard and 0900 ex Rosslare.

Post-Christmas sailings commence on 27th with the 0245 ex Fishguard.

Top of Form

Save the Rosslare to Waterford rail line have been established as a legal entity, known as Swifft. This stands for South Wexford Integrated Forum for Transport. Up to the minute info will be posted on the wall of the Swifft Facebook page at:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Swifft-South-Wexford-Integrated-Forum-for-Transport/114411118621879 but we will also continue to post regularly both here and on the Save the Rosslare to Waterford rail line Facebook page at:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=367387502018.

We are currently in talks with three companies concerning the possibility of operating services on the Rosslare to Waterford railway line. A meeting has already been held with the first interested company and we will be meeting with the second interested company this week.

A list of options has been communicated to the interested companies. Obviously the rolling stock has to meet current safety standards and be cost-efficient to operate. Railcar and push-pull options are the only logical solution. Whilst these could be operated on a one person basis we may be required by the safety authority and Irish Rail to carry a guard due to the fact that the line is manually signalled. Furthermore it would be our preference to have a guard/conductor onboard for both safety and customer benefit.

We are also working to establish a community rail partnership (CRP) and have had meetings with Iarnród Éireann. This partnership will initially focus on the Co. Wexford section of the Rosslare Europort to Dublin Connolly line (i.e. Rosslare Europort & Strand stations, Wexford O’Hanrahan, Enniscorthy & Gorey). To date key issues raised include publicity for the line, extra trains and for the onboard catering service to be also provided between Wexford and Rosslare. Feedback and suggestions from users are welcome and may be communicated with Facebook.

While the internet will be our main way of providing updates we are conscious this medium does not reach everyone and hoping to introduce at least one hard copy information channel too.

We are progressing matters as quickly as possible and hope to have more definite news in next few weeks.

Repair work on the line is currently ongoing as prescribed by the National Transport Authority (NTA) in their contract with Iarnród Éireann.

Alternative travel arrangements from Monday 20th September:

Category: Uncategorized — Admin @ 12:34 am

We are posting this info here in good faith with the aim of helping inform people as to possible alternatives. This info will be added to as appropriate.

This section aims to give useful and reliable info regarding alternative transport arrangements from Monday 20th September, 2010 onwards (train service suspended as of Saturday 18th September 2010; last train 310pm Limerick Junction – Waterford (520pm) -Rosslare Europort).

(A) The rail replacement Bus Éireann Route 370 timetable “370 Connect”:

http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1284376415-370.pdf

The places listed in the timetable are the main places along the route. The buses are local stage carriage services and they will also stop between places (subject to common sense in road safety). To board the bus it is best to give a clear and timely hand signal to the driver rather than assuming that the bus will stop.

The fares on the Bus Éireann services will be the same as existing rail fares.

Existing railway season tickets will also be accepted on the bus.

It is understood the coaches will be wheelchair accessible vehicles.

If travelling to/from Waterford (Plunkett) Railway Station please note that the nearest bus stop is currently at Waterford Bus Station. (There are plans for a bus bay at the railway station which will make interchange easier).

If travelling to/from the Stena Line Fishguard ferry the 0640 Rosslare Harbour - Tagoat - Rosslare Strand – Tagoat - Bridgetown – Wellingtonbridge – Waterford and 1730 Waterford- Wellingtonbridge – Bridgetown – Rosslare Strand – Rosslare Harbour are the most suitable journeys to use.

(B) Ballycullane will not be served by the rail replacement bus service.

Bus Éireann will continue to serve Ballycullane but on a Tuesday-only. The timetable for route 373 may be found here: http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1284565124-371372373.pdf

The Rural Bus however operate a daily route from Ballycullane to Waterford.
http://www.theruralbus.ie/waterford_daily_link.html

There is also a Fridays-only service to Waterford: http://www.theruralbus.ie/_friday.html

And a Wednesdays and Saturdays only route to Wexford: http://www.theruralbus.ie/wednesday_-_dunmain_route.html

And a Tuesdays-only route to New Ross: http://www.theruralbus.ie/tuesday.html

NTA Decision

Category: Uncategorized — Admin @ 11:14 pm

It is strongly anticipated that the National Transport Authority (NTA) will make their decision vis-a-vis the Rosslare to Waterford line tomorrow, Friday 3rd September.

We hope that common sense will prevail. On the face of it the decision is about the 35-mile South Wexford railway line. Yet so much rests on this decision - the future of regional rail services in the country both in terms of existing and prospective services in the decades ahead: the decision can be likened to the analogy of a flood gate. So whether one lives in Co. Wexford or Co. Donegal what happens tomorrow has implications.

Importantly the decision will profoundly affect how the NTA is perceived both by the general public/transport users and those working within the transport industry.
